Almost May ~ Library News

 Vox Books

We have over 40 new Vox books in our library collection. They are print books transformed into an all-in-one read-along. They can be played with or without headphones. Some of the new titles include animals that students may be interested in for research as well as engaging picture books. Teachers can check them out for classroom use and they will be used in the library.

New Books

We also received another shipment of fiction and non-fiction books.

Published Poets

April is National Poetry Month and our talented 1st grade students have crafted some Haiku poems. We are thrilled to announce that some of these poems have been selected to be published in the Young American Poetry Digest. Congratulations to our young poets for their outstanding achievement!

May Choice Board

Pebble Go

Exciting news from PebbleGo! They have just released 28 new articles in Science, Biographies, and Social Studies modules! This will provide our students even more opportunities to engage with educational content in an interactive way. The new articles are available in both English and Spanish. Some of the other newer biographies previously added include: Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift, and Beyonce.  Students can access PebbleGo! from home. Bookmarks with username and password will be handed out in the library. (English and Spanish) We will also give out bookmarks with usernames and passwords for TumbleBooks, BrainPop Jr, BookFlix, and Starfall.

TeachingBooks.net

TeachingBooks.net is one of my favorite resources for both educators and students. This platform has so many amazing resources. It helps teachers find resources for teaching books as well as finding books students will love based on their likes. Check out the Reader's Advisory page in the For Students section. They also have a partnership with Vooks Storybooks brought to life. There is a collection of titles that you can use for read-alouds. TeachingBooks also has various games available. Before reading a book to your class have them guess the title by using the Book Cover Jigsaw Puzzle. Search for the book, then choose which puzzle to solve (4 - 64 pieces). You can have students do the puzzle together on your BenQ.

iReady Testing

We are still experiencing issues with iReady/MyPath on the iPads. IT and iReady are aware of the problem. At this point we will be using touch screen chromebooks for testing.

Kaukauna Public Library Summer Reading Program

The Kaukauna Public Library will share with our students about the summer reading program. They will be here on Friday, May 17 to present to the 4K students and on Tuesday, May 28 to present to kindergarten and 1st grade students.

End of Year Library Dates

The last day for students to check out books from the library for this school year will be during the May 6 rotation and all books will be due on Friday, May 17. If you need books for your classroom beyond that date, please let us know.

Book Tournament ~ Final Four

Library News

 March Madness Book Tournament

It's so exciting, books vs books! The students are choosing their favorite books March Madness style. There are read alouds attached to all of the books except Dog Man.

We read some of them in the library, but feel free to share with your students. The voting starts with the March 20th rotation.  Students should bring headphones to skills classes.

Golden Archer

The winner of the state Golden Archer was announced at the WEMTA Conference. Our voices were heard and our votes counted as the winner at Tanner is the Golden Archer.

New Books

I want to highlight a few new titles in the library. A new series to hit the shelves at Tanner is Press Start. Who wouldn't want to read about the star of a video game. Follow the antics of Super Rabbit Boy, the strongest, bravest, and fastes animal in all the land.

The Truth About Dragons by Julie Leung is a Caldecott Honor Winner and won the Asian/Pacific American Award. It follows a young child on a journey guided by his mother's bedtime storytelling. The stories come from his two wise grandmothers as they tell their enchanted tales of dragons. It is a warm celebration of mixed cultural identity.
This next book will have your students enjoying the life of a dog and it promotes mindfulness. Being a Dog a Tail of Mindfulness by Maria Gianferrari asks "Can you be like a dog?" and explains being inquisitive, playing every day, and wagging your whole body. This book is a wonderful way to encourage mindfulness and also has backmatter sharing facts about dogs.

4K Exploration

The 4K students had a magical experience in the library right before St. Patrick's Day. A leprechaun left behind a mess and the students were scientists and experimented to find out what was left behind. They added vinegar to baking soda pucks and found pieces of gold.

Poetry

The first grade students were introduced to the poetry genre and were challenged to write their own Haiku. A Haiku is a three line poem where the 1st line has 5 syllables, the 2nd has 7 syllables, and the 3rd has 5 syllables. All poems returned to Mrs. Sager by March 22 will be sent to the Young American Poetry Digest for inclusion in a poetry book. Imagine having published authors at our school. Haiku worksheet

Three-Year Library Plan

The Board approved the three year library plan at the board meeting on March 11.
