April Library News

The week of April 5th is School Library Week. Please come to the library to celebrate on Friday April 9. We will be hosting a "Book Tasting"  for staff so you can see many of the new books and enjoy coffee or water and a snack.

Library Skills

No supplies needed for the rotation 3/31/2021-4/6/2021

We will be voting in the championship round of the Book Tournament and using the April Choice Board.

Lightbox Books

Lightbox books are interactive eBooks found in Destiny. It is a great way for students to interact with books. Click on the video above to see how to use them. They work on Chromebooks when students are logged into their Chromebook with their username and password. You can use these books in your curriculum and have them open on your BenQ for the whole class to see. They are unlimited use so more than one user can view the book at one time. You will find them on April's Choice Board as well as in Destiny.

Collections in Destiny

A collection in Destiny is a curated list of resources that can include books from the library, ebooks, audiobooks, websites, videos, Google Docs and more. Collections are accessible for staff and students and staff can create their own.  Creating your own collection is a way to curate many resources in one spot. Let me know if you want me to create one for you or show you how to do it.

April Choice Board
Take a look at all the resources on the April Choice Board.  You will find Animals, Spring, Earth Day, Poetry, Sports, and the Book Tournament along with some interactive activities such as Beebots and Stick Together.  I am happy to customize these boards to correlate with learning in your classroom so let me know what you want.

Stick Together
Students are "Sticking Together" one kindness at a time in the library.  Check out the progress on our mosaic poster and if you did not add to it, please stop in and add your "kindness"

Our digital Stick Together from last month is complete.

Reminders
Books and water do not mix. Please remind students to keep water bottles away from books. Help students to remember to bring library books back in a timely fashion.

Problem Solving and Creativity with Ozobots

Tanner Tigers read Bruce's Big Storm by Ryan T. Higgins. Bruce is a grumpy old bear that does not like neighbors. When a storm hit Soggy Hollow all the woodland creatures wanted to shelter in Bruce's house. He was not happy.  The students used color coding to get Bruce through the storm using Ozobots. The Ozobots read color to change color and do tricks.

Library News

  • Library Skills - students will need markers Friday March 5 - Tuesday March 9. They will be working on color coding with Ozobots.
  •  With March Madness approaching we will be doing a book tournament in the library. It is displayed in the hallway. Once we have all books read either during Skills or Checkout students will be voting on books for the first round and we will continue voting until we have a Tanner Winner.
Click on the picture above to find resources for the books in the tournament. You will find links to read alouds and other resources. I created a booklist in Teachingbooks.net where you can learn more about the books, authors, and illustrators. I also created a Collection in Destiny. The collection will have the books, ebooks, and audiobooks that are available.

  • We are creating a mosaic by "Sticking Together One Kindness at a Time."  Here are some 4K students adding to the picture.
