The Hour of Code

5K and grade 1 took part in the Hour of Code which is a world wide program sponsored by code.org with the mission of getting kids to code.  Coding builds on many skills such as problem solving, computational thinking, and perseverance. To introduce coding the students participated in a coding unplugged activity where they were the programmers coding their classmates who were the computers.

Students used the Kodable app to learn basics of coding. Their goal was to code Fuzzbuzz through a maze and after mastering various levels could build their own maze.

Award Winning Books

In January students will learn about various book awards such as the Caldecott, Seuss, Coretta Scott King, and Golden Archer. They will be choosing a Mock Caldecott winner and learn of the real winner on Monday, January 25 when the Youth Media Awards are announced.

Supplies for Library Skills

Look for signs hanging signs in the windows of the library to let you know if your class needs any supplies or Chromebooks for class.

Christmas Stories with KHS Student Council

Thank you to all who showed interest in having a KHS Student Council member join your class to read to students virtually the week of December 21.  Student Council will be in touch with a Google Meet link and time.

Library Books

Please remind your students to return library books in a timely manner.  We have many books that are way overdue books.  Also, we are seeing many water damaged books again. Water bottles in backpacks with books is not a good combination.

Seesaw Training

Interested in learning more about Seesaw. Check out their training resources.

Read During Winter Break

Enjoy and share with students the message to read during winter break.  Our teachers really found great places to read.

Educator Self Care

And lastly, a reminder to take time for yourself. Use this choice board for ideas.

New Titles in December

New titles have been added and can be found in the December 2020 Destiny Collection.

One book I want to highlight is Facts vs Opinions vs Robots by Michael Rex. This book has a timely message of facts vs opinions and states it in an easy to understand way for elementary students with engaging pictures. This book will be helpful with researching and writing.
