Almost May ~ Library News

 Vox Books

We have over 40 new Vox books in our library collection. They are print books transformed into an all-in-one read-along. They can be played with or without headphones. Some of the new titles include animals that students may be interested in for research as well as engaging picture books. Teachers can check them out for classroom use and they will be used in the library.

New Books

We also received another shipment of fiction and non-fiction books.

Published Poets

April is National Poetry Month and our talented 1st grade students have crafted some Haiku poems. We are thrilled to announce that some of these poems have been selected to be published in the Young American Poetry Digest. Congratulations to our young poets for their outstanding achievement!

May Choice Board

Pebble Go

Exciting news from PebbleGo! They have just released 28 new articles in Science, Biographies, and Social Studies modules! This will provide our students even more opportunities to engage with educational content in an interactive way. The new articles are available in both English and Spanish. Some of the other newer biographies previously added include: Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift, and Beyonce.  Students can access PebbleGo! from home. Bookmarks with username and password will be handed out in the library. (English and Spanish) We will also give out bookmarks with usernames and passwords for TumbleBooks, BrainPop Jr, BookFlix, and Starfall.

TeachingBooks.net

TeachingBooks.net is one of my favorite resources for both educators and students. This platform has so many amazing resources. It helps teachers find resources for teaching books as well as finding books students will love based on their likes. Check out the Reader's Advisory page in the For Students section. They also have a partnership with Vooks Storybooks brought to life. There is a collection of titles that you can use for read-alouds. TeachingBooks also has various games available. Before reading a book to your class have them guess the title by using the Book Cover Jigsaw Puzzle. Search for the book, then choose which puzzle to solve (4 - 64 pieces). You can have students do the puzzle together on your BenQ.

iReady Testing

We are still experiencing issues with iReady/MyPath on the iPads. IT and iReady are aware of the problem. At this point we will be using touch screen chromebooks for testing.

Kaukauna Public Library Summer Reading Program

The Kaukauna Public Library will share with our students about the summer reading program. They will be here on Friday, May 17 to present to the 4K students and on Tuesday, May 28 to present to kindergarten and 1st grade students.

End of Year Library Dates

The last day for students to check out books from the library for this school year will be during the May 6 rotation and all books will be due on Friday, May 17. If you need books for your classroom beyond that date, please let us know.

We read Hello Lighthouse by Sophie Blackall and built lighthouses with magnatiles. The tea lights illuminated them.

Please have a student return library books first thing in the morning so we can get them checked in before classes come for checkout.
